ABOUT THE ARTIST AND WORK
Diagnosed with Down Syndrome since birth, Sijun spent much of the first few months of his life in and out of the hospital due to congenital heart conditions. When Sijun was just 16 months old, his father passed away after losing the battle to cancer. And shortly after, Sijun’s condition deteriorated and he had to undergo major surgery when he was just 17 months old. Thankfully, when Sijun turned two years old, his condition stabilized and life gained some form of normalcy. And that was also the beginning of his artistic journey. Unlike other toddlers, Sijun was not drawn to toys, his toys were often a piece of paper and a pen. And as he grew and developed, he began to draw and paint out his emotions and observations of his surroundings. However, his artistry was affirmed only after his mother received a call from Sijun’s art teacher informing her that his artwork had won a consolation prize in an art competition. It was only then that his mother realized that his endless paintings and drawings were more than just his way of expressing his inner world, it was a gifting. Indeed, a true artist has been born and Class Living is honored to be able to showcase and share this talent with you.
